A few years ago, a new and exciting era in astronomy began. Since then, humanity has not only been able to see the cosmos, but also to hear it.
An international research community is using a global network of gigantic detectors to “listen” to the sounds of colliding black holes and neutron stars. To date they have observed more than 90 of these almost always invisible deep space events. In this talk, I will show how these observations work, what we can learn from them about these exotic celestial objects and the Universe, and how we plan to explore this dark side of the Universe in the future.
