Public talk (in German) “Das Zittern der Raumzeit – Mit Gravitationswellen das Universum belauschen”
Gravitational waves, predicted by Albert Einstein at the beginning of the 20th century, turned out to be extremely elusive. Dr. Harald Lück, Leibniz Universität Hannover, explains why this is the case and how, after great technical efforts, it was possible for the first time in 2015 to directly observe the tiny trembling of space-time.

Thanks to the continuous improvement of the detectors, it is now possible to observe several signals per week. The physicist from the Albert Einstein Institute also reports on the next generation of detectors, which will significantly improve the range for eavesdropping on events from shortly after the Big Bang, investigating stellar quakes, analyzing supernova explosions and studying the merging of neutron star binary systems.
