Public lecture on the current state of gravitational-wave and multimessenger astronomy.
Since the first direct detection of a gravitational wave on September 14, 2015, the international detector network has conducted three joint observation runs, each lasting months. Gravitational waves from merging black holes and neutron stars are now being observed regularly, giving us a new kind of astronomy. How these several dozen signals were discovered, which ones are the most exciting, and what they tell us about the universe are topics of this talk.
