Dr. Sweta Shah
Postdoc in the “Space Interferometry” group
What is your current position at our institute?
I am a scientist in the Space Interferometer Group.
What is your academic education?
- Ithaca College, NY, USA - BSc in Physics & Mathematics
- Leiden University, The Netherlands - MSc. Astronomy
- Radboud University, The Netherlands - PhD. Gravitational Wave Astrophysics
What were your previous academic positions?
- Satellite Scientist - Koninklijk Nederlands Meteorologisch Instituut, The Netherlands
Do you have a favorite figure from a paper you co-authored?
Yes. The figure shows the the gravitational-wave strain we calculated for verification binaries for LISA with nominal configurations from the study phase (i.e. 2.5 million kilometer arms). Those error bars are mostly from EM observations of distance and mass measurements.
Please let us know why you chose the Max Planck Institute for Gravitational Physics for your research.
I wanted to learn about LISA and it’s design and bridge the gap between my knowledge of the scientific discovery and how to build a detector to achieve that. AEI happens to be at the centre of the limelight and so I chose the Max Planck Institute for Gravitational Physics in Hannover.
