Astronomy Day and Long Night of Astronomy in Hannover

Joint event of the Max Planck Institute for Gravitational Physics (Albert Einstein Institute) and the Volkssternwarte Hannover e.V. on October 19

The Volkssternwarte Hannover and the Max Planck Institute for Gravitational Physics (Albert Einstein Institute) in Hannover jointly participate in Astronomy Day and the Long Night of Astronomy on Saturday, October 19, 2024. The program at the Volkssternwarte Hannover begins at 6 p.m. and ends at 10 p.m.

At 6:00 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., public talks on gravitational waves will offer insights into the dark side of the Universe and an entirely new type of astronomy.

If the weather is good, all guests can see the planet Saturn, the Moon, the Pleiades and other celestial objects during guided observations with the observatory's instruments. The comet Tsuchinshan-ATLAS is also expected to be visible brightly in the evening sky.

If the sky is cloudy, in addition to the gravitational-wave talks, there will be guided tours of the observatory and the telescopes as needed, as well as short presentations on astrophotography with these instruments.
