The Max Planck Institute for Gravitational Physics (Albert Einstein Institute) employs around 400 international scientists, technical and administrative staff, and students. It is the largest research institute in the world specializing in Einstein's legacy: general relativity and beyond. Additionally, the institute is significantly involved in one of ESA's largest projects – LISA (Laser Interferometer Space Antenna) – as well as other satellite missions in cooperation with, for example, NASA and DLR.

For our location in Hanover we are looking for a

Technical assistant for LISA hardware-in-the-loop simulations

This is a full-time position, i.e. 39 hours per week. The position is initially limited to one year.

Duties will include but are not limited to:

  • Providing support in both digital and analog electronics
  • Debugging VHDL code and programmed FPGA evaluation boards
  • Setting up a stable laboratory environment for thermally sensitive measurements
  • Analog electronic font-end development, including stable RF transformer and filter cards
  • Assistance with assembly of electronic components
  • Improvement of existing data acquisition software
  • Improvement of existing data processing program

Required qualifications and profile:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Physics
  • Experience in C, C++, and Python
  • Experience with analog electronics
  • Familiarity with analysis of stochastic processes
  • Excellent English skills (at least knowledge according to C1)
  • Experience with VHDL and FPGA development is preferred
